An Eye for AI
A pre-rendered satirical deepfake panel in which I moderate three AI academics and thought leaders discussing the future of technology and human potential.
About the Project
An Eye for AI stages a synthetic panel discussion about artificial intelligence, technological development, and competing visions of the future. The work uses deepfake media and satire to reproduce the familiar form of the expert panel while gradually pushing its assumptions toward increasingly absurd conclusions.
I appear as the moderator alongside synthetic representations of three academics and thought leaders. A discussion of the growing energy demands of data centers moves from conventional proposals such as nuclear power toward increasingly extreme solutions, eventually arriving at the use of human corporeal matter as an energy source.
The escalation is deliberately presented through the language and conventions of an otherwise recognizable technology discussion. Rather than abandoning the form of the panel, the work exaggerates its logics from within.
Research Context
The project forms part of my practice-based research on the public performance of AI ethics. My work examines how claims about intelligence, technological authority, responsibility, and the future are performed through expert roles, narratives, metaphors, media forms, and technical systems.
An Eye for AI approaches those questions through satire. By reconstructing recognizable performances of expertise and allowing their assumptions to develop ad absurdum, the work uses performance itself as a means of examining how technological claims acquire authority and how those claims can be made available for critique.
