Research

My research examines how artificial intelligence and technological authority are performed, contested, and made credible across public discourse, technical systems, and media practice.

Performing AI Ethics

Performing AI Ethics is my doctoral dissertation in Electronic Arts at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. The project examines public-facing AI ethics as a performed activity, drawing together dramaturgical analysis, historical research, and practice-based work.

The dissertation studies how claims about intelligence, agency, responsibility, and ethical authority are staged through expert roles, metaphors, interfaces, narratives, and interactions with audiences.

Intelligence and Technological Authority

A second strand of my research traces historical and conceptual genealogies of artificial intelligence, especially the relationship between intelligence, measurement, imitation, and technical authority. This work includes research on psychometrics and eugenics, the imitation game, apocalyptic AI narratives, and political-theological frameworks surrounding AI.

Critical Media Practice

My practice-based research uses satire, performance, and critical prototyping to reconstruct and test claims made about AI systems. I am developing this approach as performative adversarial STS, using ad absurdum prototyping to exaggerate and stage technical and ethical claims so that their assumptions and contradictions can be examined through practice.
